Replacing Formica without replacing the cabinetry
A countertop this old often signals to a homeowner that the whole kitchen needs to go, but the cabinetry here was sound and the client wasn't looking to start over. The decision to isolate the scope to the countertop alone meant the entire budget and attention could go into selecting one surface well, rather than spreading thinly across a kitchen that didn't need a full remodel.

Quartz with rust gold veining, chosen to work with natural wood rather than against it
A stark white or grey quartz would have created a cold contrast against the warm, natural finish cabinetry already in the room. Calacatta Rusta's rust and gold veining picks up the same warm undertones already present in the wood, so the new countertop reads as a continuation of the kitchen's existing palette rather than an unrelated material dropped on top of it.
