Design Decisions

LVT over porcelain tile: the right specification for these rooms.
The client's brief was clear: durable, modern, and suitable for a busy household. Porcelain tile was considered but set aside for two reasons. LVT's pre-attached backing delivers comfort underfoot that cold hard tile cannot, a meaningful quality-of-life difference in a bathroom used daily. And LVT's installation process is faster and less disruptive than tile, which matters when both a bathroom and a laundry room are out of service simultaneously. Trecento Quartzo Taj delivers the stone-look aesthetic the client wanted with none of the installation or comfort compromises.

Trecento Quartzo Taj: marble-look that earns its premium.
Not all LVT reads as elevated. Trecento Quartzo Taj's marble-inspired pattern, the Taj colourway in particular, has the tonal variation and movement scale that makes it read as natural stone at a glance rather than as an obvious vinyl substitute. The 12" x 24" format reinforces this: larger tiles mean fewer visible seams, which is what gives the floor its stone-like continuity across the room. This is a product that photographs beautifully and lives up to those photographs in person.

Running both rooms simultaneously: the practical argument.
The bathroom and laundry room are adjacent spaces, and the client needed both updated. Running the same product through both rooms in a single installation window consolidated disruption into one project period rather than two, reduced per-unit material cost through volume, and created a visual continuity between the two spaces that makes the back-of-house area feel like a designed zone rather than two unrelated utility rooms. Same tile, same layout, one result.

Waterproof construction: non-negotiable for these applications.
Laminate flooring in a bathroom or laundry room is a liability waiting to materialise. Moisture penetration, swelling, and subfloor damage are common outcomes over time.
