Our Orange, VA client is a builder with a passion for creating affordable, modern homes. For this new construction project, Grace House Studio was entrusted with the supply, fabrication, and installation of custom cabinetry, countertops, and cabinet hardware throughout the home, including the kitchen, master bathroom, and guest bathroom.

The client’s preferred stone selection was Valle Nevado, a popular choice among home builders seeking a balance of modern aesthetics, durability, and cost effectiveness. Its timeless appeal and versatile design make it an ideal surface for creating bright, contemporary spaces while maintaining budget conscious construction goals.

The result is a cohesive design that seamlessly connects the kitchen and bathrooms, delivering both style and functionality while complementing the home’s modern character.

Design Decisions

01

Valle Nevado granite across every room, not just the kitchen

On a new construction project with multiple wet rooms, the stone selection has to work in different lighting conditions and against different room sizes, not just on a single countertop. Valle Nevado was specified for the kitchen, master bath, and guest bath alike. Its warm speckled ground photographs and reads consistently whether it is spread across a full kitchen perimeter and island or a single bathroom vanity, which made it the right choice for a project where consistency across three rooms mattered as much as the look of any one room.

02

Granite over quartz, for a builder client's priorities

Builder clients are balancing durability, cost, and timeline in a way that differs from a single homeowner remodel. Valle Nevado granite gave this project a natural stone look and genuine durability at a price point that fits new construction budgets more comfortably than many quartz alternatives. It is a material choice that performs well across an entire home rather than being optimized for one statement room, which is the right tradeoff for a builder furnishing multiple units or homes to the same standard.

03

White Shaker cabinetry as the connective tissue between rooms

With three separate rooms receiving new cabinetry, the design needed a profile that would read as cohesive without feeling repetitive. White Shaker cabinetry was used in the kitchen and both bathrooms, which lets the Valle Nevado countertops be the material that varies in scale and context from room to room, while the cabinetry itself stays constant. That consistency is part of what makes the home feel considered as a whole rather than assembled room by room.

04

A layout, built to maximize counter run without expanding the footprint

The L-shaped perimeter with an island providing additional counter space and a secondary work zone. In a new construction kitchen, that layout maximizes counter run and storage along two walls while keeping the island available for prep work or casual seating, a configuration that suits a family home without requiring a larger footprint than the build allows.

05

Double vanity in the master, single vanity in the guest bath

The master bathroom was outfitted with a double vanity, giving the primary suite the kind of everyday function that two people getting ready at once requires. The guest bathroom, used less frequently and by fewer people at a time, was specified with a single vanity. Scaling the cabinetry and countertop footprint to how each room is actually used kept material costs proportional to function across the home.

06

Stainless appliances against white cabinetry and warm stone

The kitchen pairs stainless steel appliances, refrigerator, range, and microwave, with the white Shaker cabinetry and Valle Nevado countertops. Stainless is a finish that ages well in a builder spec kitchen because it remains broadly appealing to future buyers and tenants, and its cool, neutral tone sits comfortably against both the white cabinetry and the warm speckle in the granite without requiring additional coordination.
