This Barboursville kitchen transformation featured one of our most popular quartz selections of Winter 2025: Calacatta Duolina. Our clients wanted to replace their existing granite countertops, which felt too dark for the space, with a brighter surface that offered elegance without overly dramatic veining.

Calacatta Duolina proved to be the perfect choice. This stunning marble-look quartz showcases a mesmerizing blend of intersecting gray and gold veining set against a warm white background, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. Its polished finish enhances the beauty of the surface with a smooth, reflective sheen, adding both sophistication and durability to the heart of the home.

"The right countertop doesn't just change the surface. It changes how the entire room feels."

Design Decisions

01

Calacatta Duolina: the right quartz for a brighter brief.

The clients wanted to move away from their existing dark granite without overcorrecting into a stark white surface. Calacatta Duolina sits in exactly the right zone: warm white ground with intersecting grey and gold veining that reads as lively but not overwhelming. The gold veining in particular connects warmly to the existing cabinetry tones, tying the new surface into the room rather than floating above it.

02

Quartz over natural marble, a practical choice for a working kitchen.

Calacatta Duolina delivers the marble aesthetic the clients loved without marble's maintenance demands. Non-porous, no sealing, acid-resistant, and consistent in colour across the full run. Engineered to perform in a kitchen that actually gets used. For a family kitchen, these are not compromises. They're the point.

03

Polished finish, amplifying the surface's warmth.

The polished finish was selected over honed to maximise the reflective quality of the warm white ground. In a kitchen seeking brightness, a polished surface bounces light across the room in a way a matte finish simply doesn't. The sheen also brings out the depth of the gold veining, a detail that's subtle on the sample card and unmistakable in the finished kitchen.

04

Undermount sink, keeping the surface continuous.

An undermount configuration allows the Calacatta Duolina surface to run uninterrupted to the sink cutout edge, keeping the countertop reading as a single, cohesive plane. With a surface this considered, the last thing you want is a drop-in rim breaking the visual flow.
