Our Charlottesville clients reached out to Grace House Studio shortly after closing on their new home. While they planned to take on much of the kitchen renovation themselves, they trusted our team to supply, fabricate, and install the new countertops.
Their goal was to find a natural stone that would complement their existing brown cabinetry while bringing a lighter, brighter feel to the kitchen. After exploring their options and seeing Andino White Granite, they knew they had found the perfect fit.
Sourced from Brazil, Andino White Granite features a beautiful blend of soft whites and grays with subtle accents of beige and charcoal. Its natural variation adds character and visual interest, while the lighter tones create a beautiful contrast against the warm brown cabinetry.
The finished countertops instantly refreshed the space, giving the kitchen a brighter and more updated appearance while maintaining the warmth and character of the existing cabinets. Design Decisions

Andino White chosen to complement brown cabinetry, not compete with it
The design brief had a clear constraint: the existing brown cabinetry was staying, and the countertop had to make it look better, not fight against it. A cool white or grey stone would have created a disconnected contrast. Andino White's warm white ground with beige, grey, and charcoal speckle sits in a tonal zone that shares warmth with the brown cabinetry while introducing genuine lightness and brightness to the kitchen. The stone reads as the surface that was always meant to sit on these cabinets.

Natural granite, for a surface that adds character rather than uniformity
Andino White is a natural stone, and that matters in a kitchen where the cabinetry already has warmth and character. Engineered quartz in a comparable white colorway would have read as clean and consistent, but potentially too uniform against the warm brown wood. Natural granite's mineral variation, the way Andino White's speckle shifts in density and tone across the slab, gives the countertop its own presence and ensures the surface reads as a material with genuine depth rather than a background plane.

Polished finish, to maximise the brightness the client was after
The brief was explicitly about making the kitchen feel lighter and brighter. A polished finish on the granite was the specification that directly delivers that quality, the reflective surface bouncing light across the kitchen rather than absorbing it. Combined with Andino White's light ground tone, the polished finish is what makes the difference between a countertop that updates the kitchen and one that transforms how the room feels to be in.

Supply, fabrication, and installation, the scope that protects the outcome
The clients were handling the broader renovation themselves and needed a countertop partner who could own the supply, fabrication, and installation entirely. That scope matters because the three stages are interdependent. A countertop sourced from one place, fabricated by another, and installed by a third introduces the risk of accountability gaps when something doesn't fit or doesn't look right.
