After spending more than two years renovating their newly purchased home, our Culpeper clients were finally ready to update their powder room. They already had a remnant stone piece from a previous kitchen renovation, so their primary goals were to add functional storage and select flooring that would brighten the room while coordinating with the rest of the home.
They also wanted the space to feel warm and welcoming. Our Sande Cream ceramic tile immediately captured their attention, and we had the perfect vanity size to fit the room. The final step was selecting a vanity color that complemented the flooring. The clients had a specific gray-taupe shade in mind, and our team worked closely with them to create a custom-painted vanity that brought their vision to life.

Design Decisions

Replacing the pedestal sink with a vanity: storage and presence.
The original pedestal sink offered no storage and gave the room no visual anchor. A properly sized vanity solves both: it adds the functional storage the clients need and gives the room a finished, considered quality that a pedestal sink never communicates, however well-selected.

Sande Cream ceramic floor tile: warmth that brightens.
The clients wanted flooring that would brighten the room while coordinating with the rest of the home. Sande Cream was the immediate answer: warm without being yellow, large-format to reduce grout lines and visually expand the floor plane, and with enough surface variation to read as natural stone at a glance. It tied directly into the remnant stone countertop palette, giving the room vertical continuity from floor to counter.

Custom painted vanity, gray-taupe mixed to specification.
Rather than selecting a stock finish, the clients had a specific gray-taupe shade in mind. We worked closely with them to develop a custom paint mix that landed exactly in the zone they described: neither beige nor grey, warm without reading as dated. A custom painted finish communicates a level of intentionality that stock stains simply don't.

Remnant stone countertop: smart use of an existing asset.
The clients already had a remnant stone piece from a previous kitchen renovation. Rather than specifying new material, we sized the vanity to accommodate it and ensured the veining and tone coordinated with the new Sande Cream tile. The remnant ties the powder room back to the kitchen's material story, creating a quiet continuity across the home.
