Earlysville: Calacatta Alto Quartz Countertops

Marble elegance, quartz practicality: a bright surface that transforms dark cabinetry into a striking contrast.
Like many homeowners, our Earlysville clients knew they wanted quartz countertops but needed help selecting the perfect design. After visiting our showroom and consulting with our team, they chose Calacatta Alto Quartz.
This elegant surface combines the timeless appeal of marble with the durability and low maintenance of quartz. Delicate gray veining flows across a cool white background, creating a refined and sophisticated look. The bright surface also helped lighten the space and provided a beautiful contrast against the kitchen's dark brown cabinetry.
"A bright quartz surface against dark cabinetry doesn't just add elegance. It transforms how the whole kitchen reads."

Design Decisions
01
Calacatta Alto: guiding clients who know quartz but not which one.
The clients came in knowing they wanted quartz: a common starting point that still leaves hundreds of options on the table. Our showroom consultation narrowed the brief quickly: they wanted something that read as refined and elegant, not industrial or cold, and they needed it to work against dark brown cabinetry. Calacatta Alto answered every criterion. Its cool white background with delicate grey veining reads as classic and sophisticated, and its brightness creates exactly the kind of contrast dark cabinetry needs to feel intentional rather than heavy.
02
Bright surface against dark cabinetry: the contrast that elevates both.
Dark brown cabinetry can be a kitchen's greatest asset or its biggest challenge depending on what sits above it. A dark or mid-tone countertop absorbs into the cabinetry and makes the room feel heavier. Calacatta Alto's cool white ground creates a clean horizontal line of light at counter height that lifts the eye and makes the dark cabinetry read as rich and grounded rather than oppressive. The contrast makes both elements, stone and cabinet, more present than either would be alone.
03
Quartz over natural marble: the right choice for a working kitchen.
Calacatta Alto delivers the marble aesthetic the clients were drawn to without marble's maintenance requirements. Non-porous surface, no sealing, resistant to the acids and oils that are routine in any working kitchen. The clients selected their countertop from our showroom having seen it at full scale. They left confident in both the look and the practicality of the choice, which is exactly the outcome a showroom consultation should produce.
04
Existing backsplash retained: scope discipline that saved money.
The existing backsplash was in good condition and neutral enough in tone to work with the new Calacatta Alto surface. Rather than recommending replacement to add scope, we focused on ensuring the new stone transitioned cleanly into the existing tile, specifying a caulk colour and finish that made the junction read as intentional. The clients got a transformed kitchen without paying for work that wasn't necessary.
